Chesapeake Conservation & Climate Corps Host Site

A one-year term of stipend-supported service, starting next August , that places young adults with nonprofit organizations or government agencies for a full-time, service experience in the environmental field. Pickering Creek Audubon Center is Proud to be a 2026-27 Host Site.

As Pickering Creek’s first Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps member helping us work towards a community where people see and feel the value of our natural world and make it a priority in their everyday decisions and actions, you will be an important and active member of a small six-person full-time staff.
  • Share your enthusiasm, learn something new, teach others, get outdoors, and work with people who care as much as you!
  • Work with and learn from a highly dedicated staff, diverse in age, race, gender and experience
  • Sharpen your naturalist and teaching skills
  • Make your mark with projects you lead
  • Explore over 450-acres of stunning wildlife habitat.
During your year at Pickering Creek, a Corps Member matched with Pickering Creek will help with a variety of education, community engagement and restoration activities. Specifically, you will:
  • Take the lead on updating Pickering’s 4th grade in-school climate curriculum
  • Implement a newly designed trail on the property
  • Engage volunteers in the upkeep of five student-planted native plant pollinator gardens at local schools
  • Develop summer activities for EcoCampers and partner agencies to include climate themes
By integrating hands-on learning with environmental stewardship, we empower the next generation to grow academically, socially, and emotionally while developing a lifelong love and respect for nature.  Share this flyer with people you know!

The Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps (Corps) is designed for emerging professionals ages 18–25 who want to jump-start a career in the environmental field. Whether you’re just getting started, exploring new interests, or looking to build real-world experience, this program opens doors across the Chesapeake Bay watershed by connecting you with mission-driven Host Organizations across the state of Maryland.
As a Corps Member, you’ll:
• Gain hands-on experience at a nonprofit or government agency
• Receive professional development training, leadership coaching, and mentorship
• Build your network through events and community connections
• Join a supportive cohort of peers who are also launching their careers
• Serve full time, for one year with a $33,280 annual stipend
For the 2026–27 term, Chesapeake Bay Trust expects to place around 80 Corps Members in roles (including one at Pickering Creek Audubon Center) focused on climate action, environmental restoration, environmental education, forestry, sustainable agriculture, energy conservation, community engagement, and more. It’s a chance to make real impact while growing your skills.
This year Pickering Creek Audubon Center is one of the many potential Host Organizations for the 2026-27 Corps program. If successfully matched with Pickering Creek Audubon Center, you would have the opportunity to be part of the Pickering Creek staff as we empower the next generation to grow academically, socially, and emotionally while developing a lifelong love and respect for nature.
