Seining and Wading for Families
Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 1-3 PM
Location: Main Office
Cost: $5/adult; Free/child
Leader: Mandy Smith
Adults and young adults will get to wear chest waders into Pickering Creek and use our seine nets to catch small fish, jellies, and crustaceans to show our young audience up close. Children are invited to wear water shoes and get their feet wet exploring the edge of the sandy creek. We’ll get to meet some killifish, Atlantic silversides, mummichogs, and grass shrimp.
Pollinator Trail Walk
Sunday, August 8, 2010 from 10 AM-12 PM
Location: Garden Classroom
Cost: $5/adult; Free/child

Learn about herbs and native plants that attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Check out the different ways you can provide shelter for native bees.

Educator Workshops
Audubon Watershed Experience Workshop (See flier)
Friday, August 20, 2010, 10 PM- 3 PM
This professional development workshop is open to all participating teachers and any Biology or Environmental Science teacher that might be interested in doing the Audubon Watershed Experience program with classes in the future. Audubon staff will review each component of AWE – Chesapeake Bay Watershed 101, A Day on the Chesapeake Bay, Making Connections and Pass It On. Topics and activities will include Chesapeake Bay ecology, habitat assessment, bird watching, fishing, water quality, watershed health, student assessments and the website. Teachers will receive a teacher manual with all information and worksheets, plus supplemental lessons for in class. Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided, but you need to bring a bag lunch.
